5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Buy a Wedding Dress
10 Things You Need To Ask Before Going Wedding Dress Shopping
5 Things to Check at Your Final Wedding Dress Fitting
You’re probably thinking, “A whole blog about when to order a wedding dress?” Bear with me. It comes up all the time in the shop, and getting the timing right can save you a fair bit of stress.
Here’s my advice, in a perfect world.
I’m not saying you can’t come in for a look. But our job is to help you find a dress you love, and sometimes we do that a little too well.
You might find your dress two years ahead, then your taste or shape changes. Or you might think about it for a year and come back to find it’s been discontinued.
Trust me, it happens. I hate being the one to tell you — or trying to track down a dress that’s been out of production for two years.
This is a lovely time to start looking and choose your dress. If you can, book your ceremony and reception first so you have a feel for the kind of wedding you’re planning.
Our dresses generally take 12–16 weeks to order, depending on the style. Some custom changes may be possible too, but we’ll talk through what can realistically be done.
Alterations usually start around eight weeks before the wedding. Our friends at Ginger Pins can help with alterations, including hemming your dress or adding a bustle.
Six months can still work, but I wouldn’t leave it much longer. Some styles or custom changes may not be possible in the time available. We’ll check the timing with you before you place an order, so you know where you stand.
Around 30% of our brides come to us with four months or less to go. That’s one reason we keep plenty of dresses available off the rack.
I’ll be honest: I’d rather you came in earlier, while you still have more choice. But if your date is getting close, don’t panic. We’ll look at what’s available and allow time for any alterations that can be done.
We’re all about realistic options, honest advice and keeping the dress part as stress-free as we can. If you’re not sure when to start, book an appointment and tell us your wedding date. We’ll help you work out what’s possible.
