How to lace up a wedding dress.

Are you at a loss on how to tie the back of a wedding dress, or just need a refresher on how to do it again? Lacing up a wedding dress with a corset back can be intricate, but with patience and some help, you can do it.  Here are step-by-step instructions to guide you through the process: You’ll Need:
  • The wedding dress with a corset back
  • A helper (if possible)
  • A mirror (for the bride to see the progress)

Steps to tie the back of a wedding dress:

Prepare the Gown:
    • Ensure the dress is fully zipped or buttoned up from the bottom to the top, leaving only the corset back open.
Position the Dress:
    • Put on the dress and stand in front of a mirror with your back facing it.
Start lacing up at the corset top:
    • Begin at the top of the corset. Thread the lacing through the top two eyelets from the outside in, or the inside out depending on the look you want. Just remember to follow the same pattern all the way to the bottom. So, the ends come out towards your sides.
Even Lengths:
    • Make sure the lengths of the lacing are even on both sides. If not, adjust until they are. Otherwise, there will be one long end and one short end.
Cross Over:
    • Cross the laces over each other and thread them through the next set of eyelets, again from the outside in or inside out, keeping the ribbon flat.
Continue Lacing:
    • Continue lacing down, crossing the laces over each time until you reach the bottom.
Tighten the corset as you go:
    • As you lace down, gently pull the lacing tighter after each set of eyelets. This will help to create a snug fit. Remember, the bride should still be breathing and able to move. Also, if you pull too tight, it may distort the wedding dress.
Double-Check Alignment:
    • Occasionally, step back and look in the mirror to ensure the lacing is straight and even. Adjust if necessary.
Secure the tie ends:
    • When you reach the bottom, tie a knot or a bow at the ends of the laces to secure them. You can either tie a bow or a knot and leave it out or tuck it in, depending on your preference.
Hidden Tuck:
    • If there’s excess lacing, tuck it under the corset so it’s not hanging down.
Adjust Comfort:
    • Stand, sit, and move around in the dress to ensure it’s comfortable and fits well. If any areas feel too tight or too loose, you can make slight adjustments by loosening or tightening the lacing.
Final Check:
    • Once you’re comfortable and satisfied with the fit, have someone check the back to make sure everything looks symmetrical and neat.

Practice lacing up.

Remember, practice makes perfect. If you’re unsure, consider asking a friend or family member to help. It might take a few tries to get it just right, but once you do, it’ll be worth it for the stunning look it creates! Also, be prepared for adjustments throughout the day, ensuring the bride is always comfortable.
