Easy Options for Your ‘Something Blue’

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. If you’re having trouble finding the perfect piece to complete this old wedding adage, we can help.

You don’t have to show up to your wedding bedecked in turquoise to stick with tradition. This is one of the best problems to have on your wedding day, How do I incorporate blue? Check out these easy-peasy options.

The Blue Garter

The wedding-day garter is a tried-and-true tradition, and you can kill two birds with one stone with a luxe blue garter. Your garter is typically worn under your wedding dress and guests will giggle when your honey takes it off of you. Throwing it into a crowd of unmarried wedding guests. The one that catches it is said to be the next to be married.

The blue garter is a modern interpretation of the “something blue” tradition. Wearing something blue on a brides wedding day symbolizes love, purity, and faithfulness.

The tradition of a bride wearing a blue garter is thought to have originated in medieval Europe, where the color symbolized purity and love. The garter was seen as a lucky charm that would bring good fortune to the newlyweds.

Jewellery

Pearls and diamonds may be wedding-day staples, but they can be pricey. And for some engaged women, they’re just too boring. Jazz up your outfit with earrings, a turquoise pendant, or a glistening tennis bracelet. The pop of colour will look gorgeous in photos, and you won’t have to worry about being washed out in head to toe white.

Silver hair combs for brides

Wedding shoes

Love the idea of a surprise lurking under your dress? Lift up your hem during photos and reveal coloured shoes underneath. This flash of colour is understated enough for even the most conservative of brides.

Blue wedding shoes perfectly complement understated hemlines, and the bright, cheery colour will be a reminder to smile for the duration of your big day.

 Lingerie

If you’re a traditionalist, blue lingerie is a great way to do head-to-toe white, without sacrificing that much-lauded “something blue.”

There’s something sexy about wearing dramatic underwear underneath your conservative, innocent-looking wedding gown. Your fiancé will love the surprise when you take your gown off at the end of the day. And you’ll smirk your way through the ceremony, knowing you’ve got something gorgeous waiting underneath all that tulle and white.

Just make sure before the day to do a try on and ask someone to check the lingerie does not show through the gown. A pastel would be best.

Blue nail polish

A subtle way to wear blue nail polish on your wedding day is to opt for a pale, sheer shade of blue or one with a light shimmer. Another option could be to paint only one accent nail in blue, while keeping the rest of your nails in a neutral or white shade.

You could also consider a French manicure with a blue tip or a blue design on the base of the nail. This will add a pop of color while still maintaining a classic, understated look.

Add something blue on your fingernails

Incorporate blue into your bouquet.

There are several blue flowers that can be incorporated into a wedding bouquet, some popular options include:

  1. Hydrangeas: large and round blooms in shades.
  2. Delphiniums: tall spikes of blue, purple or lavender flowers.
  3. Iris: tall stems with delicate, showy blooms in various shades.
  4. Forget-Me-Nots: tiny blue flowers that make for a delicate addition to a bouquet.
  5. Blue Bells: clusters of small, bell-shaped flowers in soft blue shades.
  6. Blue Thistle: spiky blooms in shades of blue and purple.
  7. Larkspur: tall spikes with star-shaped flowers in shades of blue and purple.

It’s important to note that the availability of these flowers can vary depending on the season and location.

Add a blue sash or belt to your wedding dress.

A blue sash or belt can be a simple and elegant way to add a pop of color to your wedding gown. Here are some steps to help you add a sash or belt to your gown:

  1. Choose the right shade of blue: Make sure the color you choose complements the shade of white or ivory of your gown and matches the overall theme and color scheme of your wedding.
  2. Choose the right material: The sash or belt should be made of a material that complements your gown’s fabric and texture. Satin, silk, and organza are popular options.
  3. Decide on the placement: The sash or belt can be placed around the natural waist, or slightly above or below it, depending on the style of your gown and your personal preference.
  4. Attach the sash or belt: You can either tie the sash or belt in a bow at the back or have it sewn into place by a seamstress.
  5. Accessorize: You can also add a brooch, flower, or other embellishment to the sash or belt for added interest and sparkle.

By following these steps, you can add a blue sash or belt to your wedding gown in a stylish and seamless way.

Hi, I’m Leah 👋🏼 The lady behind Leah S. Designs. Hi, I’m Leah 👋🏼
The lady behind Leah S. Designs.

You may think my number 1 job is a fashion designer — and the truth is, it’s not.
Sure, some times I sketch gowns or sit behind a sewing machine.

My number 1 job is creating a space where women feel seen, comfortable, and truly beautiful.

Leah S. Designs was born 20 years ago from a love of connection, confidence, and those quiet moments when a bride looks in the mirror and her shoulders soften because she finally feels like herself. An inspiring visit, a safe space, a little magic — that’s what matters most to me.

Helping women feel incredible in their own skin is what gets me up in the mornings.
It’s never just about the dress. It’s about how you feel wearing it.
